Chateau Lafite Rothschild is a First Growth of the 1855 Classification, based in Pauillac on the Left Bank, and has been in Rothschild family hands since Baron James de Rothschild bought the estate in 1868. Original wooden cases are produced by the estate for shipment and carry the chateau branding and vintage marking on the panel. For mature vintages such as 1970, the case is often separated from the wine over decades of cellar movement and resale, which is why collectors seek replacement OWCs to restore complete original presentation.
