SQN Eleven Confessions 2022 6-Pk OWC 750mL (4 Syrah - 2 Grenache)

A six-bottle original wooden case of Sine Qua Non's 2022 Eleven Confessions wines, with four Syrah and two Grenache. Both are single-vineyard wines from the Krankls' Sta. Rita Hills estate, aged for more than three years before release.

About This Wine

Eleven Confessions wines are bottled only from that vineyard and get a much longer time in barrel than SQN's Distenta blends, typically 38 to 39 months in recent vintages. The Syrahs in this vineyard usually carry a small share of Grenache, Petite Sirah and white grapes, and the Grenache a little Syrah and Petite Sirah. 2022 was a warm year and the wines are ripe and full, with the site's clay giving them grip.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Syrah: blackberry, smoked meat, violet and black pepper. Grenache: kirsch, strawberry, rose petal and warm spice.
• Palate: Rich and full-bodied, the Syrah dense and structured, the Grenache silky and expansive.
• Finish: Long, with savoury dark fruit from the Syrah and red-fruited spice from the Grenache.

Serving & Food

These are young wines, so decant for two hours if opening now, or wait until around 2028. Serve at 16 to 18°C in large glasses. Both should last well into the 2040s. Try them with a côte de boeuf, lamb shoulder with garlic, or mapo tofu with minced beef.

About the Winery

Sine Qua Non's winery sits in Oak View, just inland from Ventura, where a new facility was finished in 2012. Before that the wines were made in a warehouse at the back of an industrial estate in north Ventura, which Robert Parker once likened to a Mad Max film set.

The Oak View property is also home to the Cumulus vineyard. It is a short drive from Eleven Confessions in Santa Barbara County, and the fruit comes back to Oak View for winemaking.
