This bottling came from cask 6175, a first-fill sherry butt filled in May 1995 and emptied in October 2013, just past its eighteenth birthday. It was one of a run of 1995 Glenrothes butts that Signatory bottled around that time. A fresh sherry butt of this size gives plenty of colour and dried-fruit depth over 18 years, and bottling at 46% keeps the Speyside fruit clear. The outturn was about 784 bottles.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dark raisin, orange peel and fig over toffee, with sherry oak and some leather.
- Palate: Rounded and mouth-coating, with cocoa, dried fruit, clove and a malty Speyside core.
- Finish: Gently drying and persistent, with sherry wood, baking spice and orange marmalade.
Serving & Food
Pour at room temperature into a tulip glass; it drinks well neat at 46%, and a splash of water lifts the orange notes. Try it alongside Christmas pudding, a wedge of aged Manchego, or roast duck with a cherry sauce.

About the Distillery
Glenrothes was founded in the late 1870s in the town of Rothes, on the Speyside whisky trail, and for most of its life its spirit went into blends such as Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse. The distillery is known for slow distillation in tall stills and a strong reliance on sherry-seasoned oak. Signatory Vintage, the bottler, buys casks from distilleries across Scotland and bottles them individually. In 2002 the company bought Edradour distillery near Pitlochry and later moved its bottling operation there. Its Un-Chillfiltered Collection is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colour, so the whisky keeps its natural oils and texture.
