Screaming Eagle Sauvignon Blanc 2014 is a rare Oakville white wine from one of Napa Valley’s most sought-after estates, produced in very limited quantities and typically bought as much for rarity as for drinking. The 2014 vintage remains a specialist collector wine rather than a routine Sauvignon Blanc purchase.

Screaming Eagle traces back to 1986, when former real estate agent Jean Phillips bought a 57-acre Oakville vineyard and kept just one acre — about 80 vines — of Cabernet Sauvignon for herself after selling most of the fruit to other Napa wineries. On the advice of Robert Mondavi Winery staff, she hired consultant Richard Peterson and, through him, met his daughter Heidi Peterson Barrett, who became Screaming Eagle's first winemaker. The 1992 vintage, released in 1995, drew a 99-point score from critic Robert Parker and turned the tiny production into one of Napa's most sought-after cult wines. The vineyard was replanted in 1995 to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the estate remains in the Oakville AVA, producing only around 600 to 700 cases a year. Jean Phillips sold the estate to Stan Kroenke and Charles Banks in 2006; Banks departed in 2009, leaving Kroenke as sole proprietor.
