Schloss Schonborn is one of the Rheingau's oldest estates, held by the Schonborn family since the fourteenth century and based at Hattenheim. Erbacher Marcobrunn is among the most celebrated Riesling sites in Germany - a narrow parcel on the Erbach boundary, known by name since the early 1800s and singled out in the Rheingau's historic vineyard classifications for its depth and longevity. Beerenauslese is made from individually selected botrytis-affected berries, picked berry by berry; 1976 was an exceptionally warm, ripe German vintage that produced a generation-defining run of these sweet wines.
