The brand takes its name from the Sazerac Coffee House on Royal Street in New Orleans, where rye whiskey and Peychaud's Bitters came together in the drink that became America's first named cocktail. Buffalo Trace has owned the Sazerac trademarks since 1949 and produces this straight rye from a rye-forward mashbill designed to deliver the spice profile of the original cocktail. The whiskey is aged in new charred American oak and bottled at 90 proof / 45% ABV.
