Salon 2015 is presented by the house as a return to fundamentals: one cru, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger; one grape, Chardonnay; and one vintage declared only in exceptional years. The 2015 growing season combined long dryness, strong sunshine and a timely cool finish before harvest on 8 September.
From the Producer
Champagne Salon was founded by Eugène-Aimé Salon in the early 20th century on the belief that Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger's Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs needed no blending with Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier to show real finesse. The house released its first commercial vintage in 1921 and, true to that single-minded approach, still declares a vintage only in exceptional years — roughly four per decade — sourcing 100% Chardonnay from around 19 small Le Mesnil growers' plots plus its own single-hectare "Jardin de Salon" parcel. Since 1989 Salon has been part of the Laurent-Perrier group alongside its sister house Delamotte.
