Russell's Reserve 13 Year 2022 is a barrel-proof, non-chill-filtered Kentucky straight bourbon from Wild Turkey, aged at least thirteen years and bottled at 114.8 proof. It was the second release of the 13 Year, following its debut in 2021.

About This Bourbon

Eddie Russell introduced the 13 Year in June 2021 and brought it back as a limited annual release in June 2022. Like the first batch, the 2022 release is bottled at 114.8 proof (57.4% ABV), straight from the barrel and without chill filtration, which keeps the oils and gives a fuller texture. The first batch was named Fred Minnick's best American whiskey of 2021. The mash bill is the house recipe of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Dark dried fruit, milk chocolate, honey, nougat and charred oak.
• Palate: Big and warming, with burnt brown sugar, toasted marshmallow, raisin and cinnamon.
• Finish: Long, with smoky oak, lingering spice and cocoa.

Serving & Food

At nearly 115 proof, start with a small neat pour at room temperature in a Glencairn, then add cool water gradually until the heat settles and the fruit comes forward. Food: grilled ribeye with a pepper crust, a dark chocolate brownie, or smoked Cheddar.

About the Distillery

Wild Turkey's home is a hill above the Kentucky River at Lawrenceburg, where the Ripy brothers opened their family distillery in 1869. The Wild Turkey name came later, in 1940, after a distillery executive took some of the bourbon along on a yearly turkey hunt with friends and it stuck.

The distillery is owned today by Campari Group. It put out Rare Breed in 1991, an early barrel-proof bourbon, and the Russell family has shaped its style across three generations: Jimmy, his son Eddie, and now Eddie's son Bruce, the associate master blender.
