Riedel is an eleventh-generation Austrian glassmaking family based in Kufstein, and the house that started grape-specific stemware. Claus Riedel's insight in the 1950s was that bowl shape changes how a wine presents; his son Georg turned it into the Vinum series in 1986, the first machine-blown lead-crystal range built around individual grape varieties. The Bordeaux bowl is the tall, broad-shouldered one, designed for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends.
