Dessus les Gollardes is Prieuré Roch's red Savigny-lès-Beaune, from a hillside plot above the village that the domaine took on in 2018. It gives Pinot Noir with more of a Côte de Nuits feel than its southern position would suggest.
About This Wine
The parcel lies above the village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, in the north of the Côte de Beaune, on stony soil at some height. It covers 1.15 hectares of Pinot Noir, with a further 0.4 hectares of Chardonnay. The domaine likes to point out that, although the site is well south of Ladoix, its reds taste like Côte de Nuits wines, and it calls them gourmand: juicy and moreish. The 2020 was grown in a warm, dry season, and picking in the Côte de Beaune started unusually early.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Red cherry, redcurrant and wild strawberry, with rose petal and a stony, peppery lift.
- Palate: Juicy and supple, medium-bodied, with bright acidity and gently grippy tannin.
- Finish: Clean and fresh, on red fruit and a light earthy note.
Serving & Food
Serve a touch cool, at 14 to 15°C, in a Burgundy glass, without decanting. Drink it now or over the next six or seven years. Good with roast chicken and morels, salmon teriyaki, or a plate of jambon persillé.

About the Domaine
Prieuré Roch divides its range into three tiers: everyday wines under the Coteaux Bourguignons label, which it calls vins de soif; village and premier cru wines from the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune; and the grands crus of Clos de Bèze and Clos de Vougeot.
The Côte de Beaune side of the estate is recent. Alongside Dessus les Gollardes it includes Le Cloud in Ladoix, 2.16 hectares planted mostly to Pinot Noir with some Chardonnay. Every wine is made the same way, fermented as whole bunches without synthetic products, whatever its rank.
