Domaine Prieuré Roch was founded in 1988 by Henry-Frédéric Roch, whose family was also part-owner and co-manager of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The estate owns Clos des Varoilles outright as a 6-hectare monopole in Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru and farms its roughly twenty hectares biodynamically, with no synthetic products in the vineyard or cellar and whole-bunch vinification without added sulphite, now led by Yannick Champ. The domaine describes Clos des Varoilles as combining the power and elegance of the most renowned Gevrey sites with a freshness that comes from the plot's particular situation.
