Port Ellen's stills stopped in 1983, and the 1979 vintage is among the last spirit the distillery ever made. Diageo vatted eight refill American oak casks for the 17th Release, bottled in 2017 at 51% with an outturn of 2,988 bottles. It was one of the final Port Ellen Special Releases before the programme was retired and the site was earmarked for reconstruction.

- Palate: Elegant and evolving, with sweet fruit, maritime peat, malt, spice and old-oak structure
