Philippe Pacalet Moulin-à-Vent 2018 is a serious cru Beaujolais from a producer better known in Burgundy circles, giving the wine a more cellar-worthy and detail-focused profile than a simple fruit-led village red.

From the Producer

Philippe Pacalet trained as an oenologist under Jules Chauvet, spent a decade as winemaker at Domaine Prieure Roch, and since 2001 has run his own negociant house from a cellar in Beaune. He buys fruit from growers he has worked with for years and makes every cuvee the same way: whole bunches, native yeast, no added sulphur during fermentation, and a minimal dose only at bottling. His nephew relationship to the Beaujolais natural-wine circle around Marcel Lapierre is part of why his Moulin-a-Vent reads more like a Cote d'Or red than a Beaujolais cru.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Violet, raspberry, dark cherry and light liquorice with floral lift.
  • Palate: Energetic and silky, with red fruit, spice, fresh acidity and subtle earthy depth around the Gamay core.
  • Finish: Persistent and lively, with floral perfume and fine mineral grip rather than heavy oak weight.

Best For

Cru Beaujolais drinkers, lighter red service, bistro-to-fine-dining pairings and buyers who want a more nuanced Moulin-à-Vent from a recognised low-intervention producer.
