About This Champagne

This magnum holds the 2007 Belle Epoque: 50% Chardonnay from Cramant and Avize, 45% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and 5% Meunier from Dizy. It aged six years and three months in the cellars and was dosed at 9 g/L, at 12.5% ABV. Deschamps described 2007 as a crystalline vintage, stressing precision over power. The Luminous bottle is coated so the anemones glow in the dark, which is why it turns up in bars and clubs. Magnums age more slowly than standard bottles, which suits a wine now in its late teens.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Brioche and toasted biscuit, then pineapple, ripe peach and honeysuckle.
• Palate: Medium to full, with toasted almond, baked apple and lemon zest over a gentle, broad mousse.
• Finish: Dry and nutty, with apple skin and a citrus bite.

Serving & Food

Rest the magnum in an ice bucket for about 20 minutes and serve at 10 to 12°C. At a party it works with canapés: smoked salmon blinis, tempura prawns or gougères. A magnum pours around ten glasses, so plan it for a group.

About the Maison

Few Champagne houses are as closely tied to a design movement as Perrier-Jouët. Founded in Épernay in 1811, it asked the Art Nouveau master Émile Gallé to design for it in 1902, and his white anemones became the signature of Belle Epoque from the 1964 vintage onward. The house has kept up that link with design, working with contemporary artists and designers on limited bottles and gift sets. In the cellar, the 2007 was blended by the long-serving Hervé Deschamps; Séverine Frerson holds the role today.
