Van Winkle bourbon traces back to Julian P. Van Winkle Sr. and the Stitzel-Weller distillery in Louisville, and the family still chooses every barrel released under its name. Production moved to Buffalo Trace in Frankfort in 2002 through a joint venture with the Van Winkles, keeping the wheated mash bill that uses wheat rather than rye as the secondary grain. Lot 'B' is the 12-year Special Reserve at 90.4 proof.
