The 2020 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon was the 20th edition of the series and landed in the brand's 150th year. At 10 years old and 98 proof, it was younger than most Birthday releases, chosen because one day's barrels tasted unusually distinctive.
About This Bourbon
This edition came from 95 barrels filled on 5 June 2010, representing a single day's production, and aged ten years before bottling at 98 proof. It was the youngest Birthday Bourbon since the 8-year-old 2004 edition. It went on sale on 2 September 2020, George Garvin Brown's birthday, in the usual limited quantities.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Caramel and maple syrup with dark fruit, oak spice and a light floral note.
- Palate: Rounded and flavourful: toffee, baking spice, black cherry and polished oak.
- Finish: Long and warm, sweet oak and spice fading into cocoa.
Serving & Food
Try it neat at room temperature in a tulip glass, or with a single ice cube on a warm Hong Kong evening. It sits nicely next to glazed ham, maple-roast pumpkin or cherry clafoutis.
