From the Producer
Yoichi is one of two malt whisky distilleries owned by Nikka Whisky Distilling, founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru on Hokkaido's west coast after he trained in Scotland and sought a climate suited to whisky maturation. The distillery is known for retaining direct coal-fired pot still heating, a demanding traditional method most other producers have replaced. Nikka has been part of Asahi Group Holdings since 1954.
