Nikka Taketsuru 17 Year Old Pure Malt is a mature Japanese blended malt named for Masataka Taketsuru and built from the contrasting styles of Yoichi and Miyagikyo, delivering elegance rather than heavy smoke.

Nikka Whisky was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who trained in Scotland before building Japan's Yoichi distillery in 1934 and its second distillery, Miyagikyo, in 1969. The Taketsuru range, named directly for the founder, is a vatted (blended) malt combining single malts from both distilleries rather than a single-site whisky, pairing Yoichi's firmer, peated character with Miyagikyo's softer, fruitier profile. The 17 Year Old was a long-running core-range age statement in the line before Nikka moved much of its portfolio to non-age-statement releases in response to whisky-stock shortages.
