From the Producer
Nikka Whisky was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who studied whisky-making in Scotland and built Japan's second whisky distillery, Miyagikyo, in 1969 on the Nikkawa river near Sendai. Miyagikyo uses a milder climate and softer water than Nikka's original Yoichi distillery, and its stills and fermentation are geared toward producing a lighter, fruitier style of single malt that complements the smokier, more robust Yoichi character in Nikka's blends.
