About This Whisky
Miyagikyo single malt is made with lightly peated malt and distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam, which gives a gentler spirit than Yoichi's coal-fired stills. Sherry casks play a clear part in the flavour. Nikka describes the aroma as malted barley with exotic fruit, the palate as firm and lively with herbal spice, and the finish as long and soft with fine tannins. This no-age-statement version replaced the older age-stated bottlings.

About the Distillery
Masataka Taketsuru opened Miyagikyo in 1969 as Nikka's second distillery. He chose a forested valley in the hills west of Sendai, where two clear rivers meet, to make a malt that would contrast with the coastal, smoky Yoichi.
Today the site makes both malt and grain whisky, and it is home to Nikka's Coffey stills as well as its steam-heated pot stills.
