Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the first Japanese to train in whisky making in Scotland, and today runs the coastal Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo near Sendai. Blending malt from both sites with its own Coffey grain whisky is the house signature, and the company's oldest reserve stock is held back for releases of this kind. This bottling was issued to mark Nikka's 80th anniversary.
