Château Mouton Rothschild 2015 is the Pauillac First Growth from a warm, ripe Left Bank vintage. Its label is a painting by Gerhard Richter.
About This Wine
The 2015 is 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, matured in new oak. It was the first label signed by the new generation after Baroness Philippine de Rothschild died in 2014, and Richter's label, Flux, was painted under plexiglass in shifting bands of colour.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Blackcurrant and bramble fruit, with cedar, pencil shavings, liquorice and a toasty edge.
- Palate: Full-bodied and polished, deep dark fruit with coffee and spice over ripe, firm tannin.
- Finish: Long, with graphite and a cigar-box note.
Serving & Food
Just past ten years old and beginning to open, with a long life ahead. Decant for about two hours and pour at 17 to 18°C into a large-bowled glass. Cantonese roast goose, lamb cutlets or mature Comté all make good company.

About the Château
Mouton lies in Pauillac, next door to Lafite, and was placed among the Second Growths in 1855. Baron Philippe de Rothschild took charge in 1922, began bottling the whole crop at the château in 1924, and campaigned for half a century until Mouton was promoted to First Growth in 1973, a promotion never repeated since. Since 1945 each vintage has carried a label by a different artist, a roll call that includes Braque, Dalí, Miró, Chagall, Picasso and Warhol. The estate now belongs to Baron Philippe's grandchildren, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild.
