Château Mouton Rothschild is a Pauillac estate on Bordeaux's Left Bank, elevated to First Growth (Premier Cru Classé) status in 1973 — the only change ever made to the 1855 Bordeaux Classification — after decades of advocacy by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who took over the estate in 1922. 1979 followed the celebrated 1978 vintage and is generally regarded as a solid, well-balanced Bordeaux year, if less heralded than its more famous neighbour.
