Mortlach 21 Special Release 2020 is a cask-strength Speyside single malt from Diageo's annual prestige series. It combines a mature age statement with Mortlach's famously muscular style, making it attractive to collectors who prefer older official bottlings with strong identity
From the Producer
Mortlach was the first licensed distillery in Dufftown, founded in 1823, and distils by a partial triple distillation its own stillhouse calls 2.81 times - run through the small 'Wee Witchie' still, which builds the heavy, meaty weight Mortlach is known for. For most of its life that spirit went into Johnnie Walker rather than into bottles of its own; a full single malt range only arrived in 2014. The Special Releases are Diageo's annual limited series, bottled at cask strength from selected inventory.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dark fruit, meaty richness, spice and oak polish
- Palate: Powerful and layered, with sherried sweetness, roasted nuts, cocoa and savoury malt depth
- Finish: Long and warming, with pepper, oak and lingering dried-fruit intensity
