The Macallan was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid in Craigellachie, Speyside, and built its identity on European-oak sherry casks seasoned in Jerez. The distillery joined the Edrington Group in 1999, and in 2002 launched the Fine & Rare Collection that anchored its collector side. The M Collection is The Macallan's flagship luxury tier — six decanters produced in partnership with French crystal house Lalique, each calendar-year release expressing a different facet of the distillery's sherry-cask maturation. M Black is the smoke-led variant in the series, designed as a dramatic counterpoint to the unpeated M and M Copper decanters.
Appearance — Deep mahogany, polished.
Nose — Dried fruit, fig, polished oak, gentle smoke, spice and dark chocolate.
Palate — Rich and composed, with sherry fruit, date, ginger, oak spice and a restrained smoky thread.
Finish — Long and elegant, with lingering dried fruit, spice and soft smoke.
