Decade II is the 1970s bottle in The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release, a set of six launched in September 2022 to mark sixty years of 007 on screen. The whisky is the same in all six; each carton carries artwork from a different decade of the films, and this one covers the years when Roger Moore took over the role.
About This Whisky
Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell created the single malt for the whole series and set its strength at 43.7% ABV, a nod to Bond's 007 number. It carries no age statement and has natural colour. The Decade II carton draws on the 1970s films and the Moore era, and it can be kept as a single bottle or put together with the other five decades. A small number of complete sets were also housed in a Globe-Trotter suitcase for the anniversary.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Lemon and lime zest with a dusting of sherbet, then vanilla, coconut and a little dried fig and raisin.
- Palate: Orange zest and fizzy sherbet, gentle oak and ginger, moving into dark chocolate, figs and baked apple tart with honey.
- Finish: Sweet and long, with layers that keep unfolding.
Serving & Food
No ice needed here. Poured neat at room temperature into a Glencairn, it keeps its citrus bright. Serve it with lemon tart, a plate of prosciutto and melon, or dark chocolate with orange peel. A Bond film on the screen will not hurt.

About the Distillery
The Macallan has belonged to Edrington since 1999, when the Scottish group bought it from Highland Distillers. Under Edrington the estate got a new production home: a distillery designed by the architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, built into the hillside under turfed roofs that echo the shape of ancient Scottish brochs, and opened in 2018. Inside, the curiously small copper stills are set out in circles beneath a timber roof, and the company stresses that the water, still shapes and methods are unchanged from the old stillhouse.
