The Hibiki 100th Anniversary Blend was released in Japan on 5 December 2023 to mark one hundred years of Suntory whisky making, counted from the founding of Yamazaki in 1923. It is a no-age-statement blend at 43%, but built from unusually old stock.
About This Whisky
Suntory's blenders began with characterful whiskies aged 17 years or more, then added Yamazaki malt matured for over 30 years in mizunara casks, along with mature Chita grain whisky. The aim was to keep Hibiki's floral, graceful style while giving it more depth and complexity than the standard blends. It carries no age statement because the recipe mixes components of different ages.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Sweet, juicy citrus, sandalwood and the incense note of old mizunara.
- Palate: Silky, with orange marmalade, honey and a bright, fresh acidity against mature oak.
- Finish: Smooth and long, with lingering spice and a temple-wood character.
Serving & Food
Serve it neat and unchilled in a small tulip glass, or over a single large ice sphere for a cooler, slower drink. It suits delicate flavours: Kyoto wagashi, lightly seared wagyu, or candied citrus peel.

About the Distillery
Hibiki, meaning resonance, was launched in 1989 to celebrate Suntory's 90th year as a company. From the start it was a blender's whisky, combining malt from Yamazaki and Hakushu with grain whisky from Chita, and drawing on a wide spread of cask types, Japanese mizunara oak among them.
The centenary year brought several Hibiki releases. Most export markets saw a limited Hibiki 21 with mizunara to the fore and a special bottle design for Japanese Harmony. This Anniversary Blend is a different whisky altogether, blended specifically for the occasion for the Japanese market.
