Hennessy XO Cognac 1.5L is the original "Extra Old" cognac, created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870 and presented here in the 1.5-litre Magnum format.

Hennessy was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irish military officer who settled in the town of Cognac, and is today the largest cognac house, part of the LVMH group. Hennessy XO was created in 1870 when fourth-generation Maurice Hennessy asked cellar master Emile Fillioux to assemble a richer blend of long-aged eaux-de-vie for his circle of family and friends — and the "Extra Old" designation was so well received that it became the industry standard for the category. Hennessy XO is a blend of more than 100 eaux-de-vie drawn from four of the region's crus — Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois — aged up to around 30 years in French Limousin oak casks. The Hennessy Fillioux family has held the master blender role for eight generations, from Jean Fillioux in 1806 to Renaud Fillioux de Gironde today. Hennessy XO was also the first cognac shipped to Asia, reaching Shanghai and Hong Kong in 1872.

Tasting Notes

Nose — Deep amber, with candied fruit, roasted spice, chocolate and warm oak.

Palate — Rich and powerful, with baked fruit, dark spice, cacao and rancio depth, finishing very long with cinnamon, vanilla and oak.

Best For

Best for milestone gifting, after-dinner service and collectors of large-format cognac. Neat, with a splash of water, or over a single large ice cube, per Hennessy's own serving recommendation.
