Heaven Hill first released Old Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon in 1939, and it quickly became Kentucky's best-selling bourbon. Bottled-in-Bond status under the 1897 federal act requires the whiskey be the product of a single distillery and one distilling season, aged at least four years in a government-bonded warehouse and bottled at exactly 100 proof — a standard Heaven Hill has continued to honour even as many rivals dropped the category.
