Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern is a Rheingau estate based at Eltville, whose family has been connected with viticulture in the region since the sixteenth century and which still farms vineyards in Erbach. Erbacher Marcobrunn is one of the Rheingau's most historically celebrated sites, ranked at the top of the 1868 Prussian vineyard classification, and takes its name from the boundary spring between Erbach and Hattenheim. Its deep loess and loam soils, close to the Rhine, hold warmth well and have long produced Riesling with concentration and ageing capacity. Auslese designates a late-harvest ripeness category within the German Pradikat system, made from selectively picked, fully ripe bunches. This 1976 bottling is numbered #16 and comes in the 700mL format used by Rheingau estates of that period.
