E.H. Taylor, Jr. Straight Rye is a small-batch, bottled-in-bond rye from Buffalo Trace made from a mash bill of rye and malted barley with no corn. It is a full-bodied, spice-forward rye in the Taylor line, bottled at 100 proof.
From the Producer
Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. rebuilt what is now Buffalo Trace in the 1870s and then campaigned for the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, the first consumer-protection law for food or drink in the United States. Every bottle in the E.H. Taylor range still honours it: one distillery, one distilling season, at least four years in a federally supervised warehouse, bottled at exactly 100 proof. The Straight Rye is the outlier in the line - rye and malted barley only, no corn at all.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dried fruit, black pepper and a touch of fresh dill.
- Palate: Sweet and savoury together, with rye spice, grain richness and a firm, spicy backbone.
- Finish: Pleasing and lingering, with an oaky dryness that holds just long enough.
Best For
Rye drinkers, Buffalo Trace collectors and buyers who want an allocated American whiskey with real structure in the glass.
