From the Producer
Venture Whisky's Chichibu Distillery was established in 2007 in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, and began production in 2008 — the first new Japanese whisky distillery to receive a production licence in 35 years. The distillery was founded by Ichiro Akuto, head of the Akuto family that ran the Hanyu Distillery through Toa Shuzo until 2004, when Akuto acquired the remaining Hanyu whisky stock to launch the Ichiro's Malt brand and plan a distillery of his own. The Travel Exclusive line sits within that travel-retail programme, allocated to airport and duty-free distribution and treated by the secondary market as one of the harder-to-source modern Chichibu expressions.
