Chichibu The Single Cask #2593 is a Japanese single malt bottling built around one named cask from Ichiro Akuto's Chichibu Distillery. The Oloroso hogshead cask gives this expression a richer dried-fruit profile than many fresher bourbon-cask Chichibu releases.
From the Producer
Chichibu distillery sits in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, and is run by Venture Whisky, founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto. The Akuto family had made sake at Chichibu since 1625 and later ran the Hanyu distillery; when the family firm was sold in 2004, Akuto bought back the remaining Hanyu casks and built his own distillery, which was completed in 2007 and started distilling in February 2008. The original Chichibu site matures spirit across roughly 4,000 casks that previously held sherry from Spain and Portugal, French wine and American bourbon, with an in-house cooperage building casks from Japanese oak.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Malt, dried fruit, oak spice and nutty sherry tones.
