Chichibu The Peated US Edition 2020 is a market-specific Japanese whisky release built around Chichibu's peated distillate style. Chichibu distillery sits in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, and is run by Venture Whisky, founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto. The Akuto family had made sake at Chichibu since 1625 and later ran the Hanyu distillery; when the family firm was sold in 2004, Akuto bought back the remaining Hanyu casks and built his own distillery, completed in 2007 and operational from February 2008. The original site works with two small pot stills imported from Scotland and mizunara (Japanese oak) washbacks, and the Chichibu range includes peated expressions alongside the more common unpeated malt.
