Chichibu Refill Hanyu Cask #2085 2012 is a single-cask Japanese single malt from the Chichibu distillery in Saitama, Japan, matured in a refill Hanyu cask (#2085) and bottled at 61.5% ABV. Distilled in 2012 and reportedly bottled in 2019, presented in 700ml format.
From the Producer
Chichibu distillery was founded in 2008 in Saitama, Japan by Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the master distiller of the now-closed Hanyu distillery. When Hanyu was demolished, the Akuto family purchased a large number of remaining Hanyu casks to prevent their loss. Chichibu continues to use some of those older refill Hanyu casks for special single-cask releases, with the resulting whisky carrying a deeper, cask-led flavour profile from the older wood.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Sweet malt, dried fruit, subtle spice and layered old-cask complexity.
- Palate: Focused and textural, with orchard fruit, oak, soft sweetness and a refined, cask-led core.
- Finish: Long and balanced, with spice, malt and lingering dry fruit.
Best For
Chichibu specialists, Hanyu-linked collectors and private cellars focused on rare Japanese single casks.
