Chichibu 2013 Mitsukoshi Isetan Hogshead 2nd Fill Cask #2501 is a niche Japanese single-cask bottling linked to the Mitsukoshi Isetan retail group. Public references are sparse.
From the Producer
Chichibu was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, on the site of a former sake brewery. The distillery runs small pot stills, on-site floor maltings and short fermentations, and matured its first new-make spirit in 2009. Its single malt program is built cask-by-cask under the Ichiro's Malt label, drawing on Akuto's earlier work with the Hanyu distillery stock. Bottled at cask strength from a single hogshead, this kind of 2nd-fill maturation is part of Chichibu's retailer-select work with partners such as Mitsukoshi Isetan.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Sweet malt, orchard fruit and fine oak spice
- Palate: Precise and cask-led, with citrus, grain sweetness, pepper and layered oak
- Finish: Long and warming, with dry spice and lingering malt richness
