About This Whisky
Peated Chichibu distilled in 2012 and matured in a second-refill hogshead that had previously held Hanyu and then Chichibu whisky. It was chosen by Speciality Drinks for the London department store Selfridges and bottled in 2019, with 200 bottles at 62%.
The spirit is Chichibu, not Hanyu.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Soft peat smoke, honey and caramel, with vanilla, dried apricot and oak spice.
- Palate: Powerful and textured, with sweet malt, stone fruit and smoky depth, then pepper and cask-strength grip.
- Finish: Long, with ash, spice and lingering malt sweetness.
Serving & Food
Serve at room temperature with barbecued pork ribs or salted caramel chocolates.
Good to Know
Is it Hanyu whisky? No. It's Chichibu, aged in a hogshead that first held Hanyu.
Is it peated? Gently. It was distilled from peated Concerto barley.

About the Distillery
Isouji Akuto, Ichiro Akuto's grandfather, founded Hanyu in 1941, and it last distilled in 2000. Ichiro set up Venture Whisky in 2004 to save its casks, then opened Chichibu in 2008.
