Cask 2192 was distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2022 after 23 years, at 57.1% ABV, as a single cask. At 57.1% it is a gentler strength than many fully tropical Caroni bottlings, which often sit above 60%.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Tar and dark fruit, with molasses, clove and a savoury, industrial edge.
- Palate: Rich and oily, bitter chocolate, caramel and a little smoke over tropical fruit.
- Finish: Dry and lasting, on liquorice, oak and a faint petrol note.

About the Distillery
When Caroni stopped distilling, its column-still rums, from light to heavy, were still ageing in the warehouses. Much of that stock passed to Velier, but over time casks have also reached other independent bottlers, some matured in Trinidad and some shipped to Europe to finish their ageing in a cooler climate. The 1998 vintage has been bottled widely in recent years. Reviewers tend to find it among the less tarry Caroni years, though individual casks vary a great deal, which is part of the appeal of a single-cask release.
