Buffalo Trace Distillery is a Kentucky distillery situated on the Kentucky River at Frankfort. It has been in continuous operation for more than two centuries and holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating distillery in the United States. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2013. The site is owned by the Sazerac Company, which has progressively expanded the property's output, ageing capacity and experimental programmes over the last two decades. Buffalo Trace is the distillery's flagship straight bourbon, made from a mash bill in the low-rye style, distilled and aged on-site and bottled at 45% ABV. The distillery is also the source of Eagle Rare, Blanton's, E.H. Taylor, Benchmark, George T. Stagg, Sazerac, W.L. Weller and a long-running Experimental Collection.
Tasting Notes
Appearance — Deep amber, with a slight copper edge.
Nose — Sweet corn, brown sugar, vanilla and light caramel, with restrained oak and a hint of toffee.
Taste — Medium-bodied and balanced, with brown sugar, vanilla, gentle rye spice and a soft grain sweetness on the mid-palate.
Finish — Medium, with lingering vanilla and oak.
