Bowmore was established in 1779 on the south-eastern shore of Loch Indaal and is the oldest running distillery on Islay, now owned by Suntory Global Spirits through Morrison Bowmore Distillers. The distillery still operates traditional floor maltings and sources as much Islay barley as it can, supplementing with mainland malt when island supply falls short. Its house cask policy leans heavily on American oak, with sherry casks making up the smaller share — the combination behind the 15 Year's sweeter, more rounded take on Islay smoke. Bowmore places the 15 Year in its permanent core range alongside the 12, 18 and 25 Year.
