La Côte aux Enfants is a steep, south-facing parcel of old-vine Pinot Noir on the Aÿ hillside, historically farmed by the same family for generations before being incorporated into Bollinger's estate vineyards. The 2012 vintage was a late-ripening, classically structured year in Champagne — Bollinger held the base wines on lees for extended aging before dégorgement to balance the vintage's firm acidity with the richness of fully ripe Pinot Noir.
