About This Wine
1967 was a large harvest across Bordeaux that produced attractive, lighter-framed reds. After nearly six decades, Beychevelle 1967 is a delicate, fully mature claret. Recent notes vary with storage: well-kept bottles still show lively red fruit and fine, faded tannins, while tired ones turn lean. This case has stayed together in its original wooden box; fill levels and corks should still be checked bottle by bottle.

About the Château
Beychevelle sits at the southern entrance to Saint-Julien, close to the Gironde, and its grand 18th-century château is often called the Versailles of the Médoc. The name comes from the Gascon for "lower the sail": ships passing the estate of the Duc d'Épernon, Admiral of France, were said to dip their sails in salute, which is why a ship with a griffin figurehead appears on the label.
The estate was ranked a Fourth Growth in 1855. For much of the 20th century it belonged to the Achille-Fould family. Since 2011 it has been owned by Grands Millésimes de France, held in equal shares by Castel and Suntory. The vineyard, around 90 hectares on deep Garonne gravel, is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot and a little Cabernet Franc.
