About This Wine

The Marcobrunn lies on the boundary between Erbach and Hattenheim, low on the slope near the Rhine, and has long been counted among the Rheingau's top sites, known for rich, deep Riesling that ages well. Beerenauslese is made from overripe, hand-picked berries, many touched by noble rot. The 1976 German summer was hot and dry, and the autumn brought plenty of botrytis, so the vintage is remembered for its sweet wines. The #36 identifies the individual cask or lot.

• Nose: Honey, dried apricot, marmalade, wax and mature petrol notes.
• Palate: Rich and sweet, with candied citrus, stone fruit and layered botrytis.

About the Estate

Domänenweingut Schloss Schönborn in Hattenheim is one of the oldest estates in Germany, owned by the Counts of Schönborn since 1349. Its holdings run from Hochheim to Rüdesheim across around 35 single sites, most of them classified as Erste or Grosse Lage.

Riesling covers close to 95 percent of the vineyards, with some old vines over 70 years of age. The estate's reputation rests on long-lived Riesling from sites such as Marcobrunn, Nussbrunnen, Pfaffenberg and Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg.
