Tsukuriwake (pronounced soo-koo-ree-wah-keh) means "artisanship through a diversity of making," and the 2024 Tsukuriwake Series from The House of Suntory, curated by 5th Generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo, spotlights ingredient selection, peat and cask across four expressions from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries. Yamazaki Golden Promise is made from Golden Promise barley, a grain variety cultivated in Scotland since the 1960s and distilled at Yamazaki since 2009, then matured in American oak casks. According to Suntory, this component has also been blended into Yamazaki 12 Year Old to add its deep, rounded flavor to the core range.
