Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is Kentucky straight bourbon bottled one barrel at a time at 110 proof, without chill filtration. Each barrel differs a little from the next, around a core of toffee and vanilla.

About This Bourbon

Every bottle comes from a single cask rather than a blended batch. Wild Turkey bottles the range at 110 proof (55% ABV) and skips chill filtration so the oils and fuller texture stay in the whiskey. The distillery describes each barrel as having its own personality, usually with more spice and punch than the standard small batch. This listing is a 2024 bottling, made from Wild Turkey's bourbon mash of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Toffee, vanilla, orange zest and toasted oak.
• Palate: Full-bodied and spicy, with caramel, sweet corn, cinnamon and barrel char.
• Finish: Warm and long, oak and pepper with lingering toffee.

Serving & Food

Try it neat first, then over a single large cube, which suits the 110 proof well. It holds up well in a sturdy Old Fashioned. Good alongside barbecue ribs, bacon-wrapped dates or a slice of bread and butter pudding.

About the Distillery

Wild Turkey sits on a limestone bluff above the Kentucky River at Lawrenceburg. The name dates from 1940, when an executive of the New York grocer Austin, Nichols took bourbon samples on a wild turkey hunt; the firm bought the distillery outright in 1971, Pernod Ricard took it over in 1980, and Campari Group has owned it since 2009.

Through all of that the Russells ran production. Jimmy Russell started in 1954 and became Master Distiller in 1967. In 2023 Campari announced a second distillery on the campus to raise capacity.
