Old Weller 7 Year Antique Gold Vein 107 1Litre

HKD 38,000.00 HKD 38,000.00
Category: Bourbon

An older litre bottle of Old Weller Antique with a 7-year age statement and the gold-veined paper label, bottled at 107 proof. Current Weller Antique no longer carries an age statement, so these earlier bottlings are kept as a record of how the brand used to taste.

About This Bourbon

The gold-veined paper label and 7-year age statement belong to the older Old Weller Antique, bottled at 107 proof (53.5% ABV). The litre size points to the metric era, after American spirits moved to metric bottle sizes, so this is a later bottle than the 4/5 quart versions. The age statement was later dropped and the bottle redesigned.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Caramel and vanilla with old oak, leather, cherry and baking spice.
  • Palate: Rich and mouth-filling, with wheated sweetness, toffee and seasoned oak.
  • Finish: Long and warming, holding sweet oak, spice and caramel.

Serving & Food

At 107 proof this takes water well, so start neat and unchilled in a Glencairn and add water a drop at a time. Chunky hard cheese, barbecue brisket or pecan brittle all stand up to the strength.

How to Enjoy

Collectors of older Weller and Stitzel-Weller-era bottles, and specialist bourbon tastings that compare old and new labels.

About the Distillery

The Weller name goes back to William Larue Weller, born in Kentucky in 1825, who started his whiskey business in Louisville in 1849. W.L. Weller & Sons was a wholesaler rather than a distiller, buying whiskey and selling it under its own labels, as many Louisville houses did at the time. The name outlived its founder and passed through several owners, and since the Stitzel-Weller years the brand has been made from a wheated mash.
