Michter's revived an old Pennsylvania name in Louisville and built the house around one stubborn habit: barrels go in at 103 proof rather than the legal maximum, so less water is needed at bottling and less is stripped out of the spirit. The US★1 Rye is a single barrel — each bottle traces to one cask — and it is filtered to a spec set for rye alone rather than run through the same line as the bourbon.
