About the Distillery
Bulleit was founded in 1987 by Tom Bulleit, a Kentucky lawyer who set out to revive a high-rye bourbon recipe from his family's past. The brand is part of Diageo, and trades under the name Bulleit Frontier Whiskey. In 2017 it opened its own distillery in Shelbyville, Kentucky, which is now a stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
The rye came later. Diageo says bartenders asked for a rye to rebuild pre-Prohibition cocktails, and Bulleit Rye followed in 2011. It has since been joined by aged versions such as a 12-year-old rye.
