Russell's Reserve is the premium line from Wild Turkey Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, named for Jimmy Russell, the distillery's longtime master distiller, and his son Eddie Russell, who also holds the master distiller title there. Wild Turkey traces its name to the 1940s, when a company executive shared warehouse samples with friends on a wild turkey hunting trip and the name stuck; bottling under the Wild Turkey brand began in 1942, and Campari Group has owned the distillery since 2009. Russell's Reserve Single Barrel releases are selected one cask at a time rather than blended into a standard batch, so bottle-to-bottle character varies.
