Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2009 is the prestige all-Chardonnay cuvée of Maison Ruinart in Reims, made only from grand cru vineyards. The wine spent at least nine years on its lees before release.
About This Champagne
The 2009 blend is 82% Côte des Blancs Chardonnay from Cramant, Avize, Chouilly and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, with 18% from Sillery on the Montagne de Reims, a village known for a flinty, tighter style of Chardonnay. Hail, rain and wind disrupted flowering, but a dry summer followed and picking started in mid September. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled steel with full malolactic, stacking was done by hand, and dosage was kept to 4 g/L. Alcohol is 12.5%.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Ripe lemon, nectarine and white peach, then toasted almond, fresh brioche and a chalky, smoky edge.
- Palate: Rounded and generous for a Blanc de Blancs, with citrus peel, yellow orchard fruit and a fine, creamy mousse held in place by bright acidity.
- Finish: Long and mineral, with a pleasant bitter-citrus grip and a hint of toast.
Serving & Food
Chill to about 10 to 12°C and pour into a tulip or white wine glass, not a narrow flute, so the toasty side can show. Drinking well now and should hold through the early 2030s. Try it with grilled langoustine, turbot in beurre blanc or a simple plate of Comté.
How to Enjoy
A mature grand cru Blanc de Blancs for a seafood dinner or an anniversary bottle that is ready to open now.

About the Maison
Ruinart dates from 1729, when Nicolas Ruinart set up a business in Reims dedicated to wine with bubbles. His uncle was Dom Thierry Ruinart, a Benedictine monk and scholar whose name now sits on the prestige cuvée. That founding date makes Ruinart the oldest established Champagne house.
From the start the house leaned towards Chardonnay, and that grape runs through every wine it makes today, from the non-vintage Blanc de Blancs to this bottling. Ruinart is part of Moët Hennessy, the LVMH wine and spirits arm, and has been run by president Frédéric Dufour since 2011.
