Akashi is the whisky output of Eigashima Shuzo, a family-owned distillery on Eigashima island in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, that has been making spirits since 1888 and holds one of Japan's earliest whisky-distillation licences, granted in 1919. Long overshadowed by the larger Scottish-style houses of Yamazaki and Yoichi, Eigashima has quietly built a reputation for small-batch, cask-led single malts released through independent bottlers under the Akashi name. The Ghost Series, bottled by independent bottler La Maison du Whisky, takes its name from closed-warehouse casks at Eigashima: casks that were hidden from public tastings for years, hence "ghosts", and brought out only as small single-cask releases.
This particular expression, Ghost #15, is a single-cask 4-year-old distilled in 2016 and fully matured in a tawny Port pipe, cask number 61966, drawn at cask strength.
